Terms of Service
Jnana · Last updated 2 August 2026
Jnana is a word game published by The Pancake Stack. By installing or playing it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. The game
Jnana is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial use. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and play it. You may not resell it, redistribute modified copies, reverse engineer it, or use it to build a competing service.
2. Your account
Signing in is optional. If you do sign in, you are responsible for the security of the account you use. Do not impersonate other people, and do not share an account with someone you would not want seeing your friends, matches, and scores.
3. Acceptable use
The only free text other players see from you is your display name and the name of any match you host. Do not use a name that is abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, or that impersonates somebody else. More generally, do not:
- harass, threaten, or abuse other players;
- attempt to cheat, exploit bugs for advantage, or automate play;
- attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the service or to other players' data.
We may reset a display name, or suspend or remove an account, that breaks these rules.
4. Things you create
Boards, quizzes, and display names you author remain yours. Quizzes, and boards you have not sent anywhere, stay on your device. By sending a board or setting a display name you give us permission to store and display it as needed to run the game — for example, showing an authored board to the opponent you sent it to. We do not claim ownership and we will not use your creations for anything outside the game.
5. Submitting a board for the Daily
You can build a board and submit it for consideration as a future Daily. Doing so is entirely optional, and the board stays yours. By submitting it you give us permission to publish it as a Daily — to store it, to show it to every player on the day it runs (including in the public file of published boards on our website that the app downloads), to keep it in the Daily Archive afterwards, and to display a credit alongside it. Only submit a board that is your own work.
Two things to be clear about:
- Submitting does not guarantee publication. Every board is read and chosen by hand, and most submissions are never published. Nothing is owed to you if yours is not picked, and we do not explain individual decisions.
- We may decline or remove any board, at any time, for any reason. That includes taking down a board that has already run, and it includes changing or removing the credit shown with it.
The credit shown on a published board is set by us at the time we publish it. It defaults to your display name as it stood when you submitted, but it may be edited or left off. A published board is not linked to your account afterwards, so changing your display name later does not change a credit that has already run. If you want a published credit changed or removed, email us.
Section 3 applies to submissions in full. Do not submit a board, or ask for a credit, containing anything abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, or that impersonates somebody else.
6. Availability
Jnana is offered as-is and free of charge. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it, including online multiplayer, at any time. We try to avoid losing anyone's progress, but we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or that data will never be lost. Keep in mind this is a small independent project, not an enterprise service.
7. Ending things
You can stop at any time by deleting your account in Settings → Account, or by uninstalling the app. We may terminate access for a serious or repeated breach of section 3.
8. Disclaimer and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Jnana is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Pancake Stack will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from them will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Wisconsin, and you agree to those courts having personal jurisdiction over you.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the updated terms.
